QR code generator FAQ

Is this QR code generator really free?+

Yes. You can generate and download QR codes as PNG or SVG without creating an account, entering an email, or paying anything. There are no watermarks, no hidden limits, and no restrictions on the number of QR codes you can create.

What types of QR codes can I create?+

You can generate QR codes for URLs (website links), plain text, email addresses (opens the mail app), phone numbers (starts a call), SMS messages, and Wi-Fi network credentials (auto-connects on scan). Just select the content type and enter your data.

What is the difference between this free QR code and a dynamic QR code?+

This free tool generates static QR codes — the destination URL is encoded directly in the QR image and cannot be changed after printing. A dynamic QR code (available with a free QioFork account) encodes a short link instead, so you can change the destination anytime from your dashboard — even after the QR code has been printed on thousands of flyers.

Should I download PNG or SVG?+

SVG is a vector format that scales to any size without quality loss — perfect for printing on billboards, packaging, or large banners. PNG is a raster image best for digital use (websites, social media, email). If you are printing the QR code, always choose SVG.

What does error correction level mean?+

Error correction determines how much of the QR code can be damaged or obscured while still being scannable. Level L (7%) is the smallest size. Level M (15%) is the recommended default. Level Q (25%) is good if you plan to overlay a logo. Level H (30%) is best for rough environments where the QR code might get scratched or damaged.

Can I customize the QR code colors?+

Yes. Use the color presets or custom color pickers to set the QR color (the dark modules) and the background color. For best scannability, use high contrast — dark QR on a light background. Avoid using similar colors for both (e.g., dark blue on black) as scanners may not read them.

Do these QR codes expire?+

No. Static QR codes generated with this tool never expire — they will work as long as the destination URL is live. However, if the destination URL changes or goes offline, the QR code will stop working. Dynamic QR codes from QioFork let you change the destination without reprinting.

Can I create a Wi-Fi QR code?+

Yes. Select the "Wi-Fi" content type and enter your network details as SSID:password:security. When someone scans the QR code, their phone will prompt to join the network automatically — no manual password entry needed.
